The Golfing Society of the Departments for Communities & Local Government and Transport

Welcome to the Sparta Golf Society website

The Sparta Golf Society is a society formed from staff and colleagues of the Departments for Communities and Local Government and Transport and their predecessor departments. Its roots can be traced back to 1921 and a brief history can be found by clicking the History link above.

The Society is London based and holds meetings at courses in and around the M25. We have a thriving membership and are always glad to see new faces. If you want to know more then contact our Secretary (see contacts page). In the meantime feel free to browse our website pages.

The President is looking for a big turnout at Farnham

New President, Geoff Dawe is hoping for a big turnout at his first President's Day to be held at Farnham GC on 1 June.

Invites have gone out and, similar to the Spring meeting, the pairs will be held in the morning with the singles in the afternoon. The pairs will be fourball betterball as it was last year when Darren Cooper and Peter Gray returned with an amazing 50pts to take the Pepler Cup.

The afternoon singles will be a combined competition not only for the President's Tankard but also the 2nd leg of Lovell Salver - the first leg was played at the Autumn Meeting.

Be sure to reply to your invite without to avoid disappointment.
A copy of the invite can be downloaded by clicking here.

New Captain makes his 'Mark' at Spring Meeting

2012 Captain, Mark Hitchen, had a three point plan for his year in the post: 1. Ensure good weather; 2. Don't win; 3. Be good company. He failed in the first two of those with the worst weather at a Society meeting for a long time and he won the singles Addison Plate Competition.
