This the website for the Sparta Golf Society. Here you will find all the events, news and details of a thriving society of golf minded staff and colleagues of the Departments for Communities & Local Government and Transport.

The Society organises events from April to October each year. Although our 2011 season is now at an end, we have an exciting calendar lined up for 2012. As news stories are generated, the headlines are shown on this page with quicklinks to read the full story.

Dateline: 1 Feb 2012:
Mond Cup withdrawal

Darren Cooper has recently had a knee operation which has put him out of action for six months. He has therefore withdrawn from the Mond Cup as he would not have been able to play before the deadline.

This means that Doug Little gets a bye into the next round against Will Donaldson - no doubt at Sunningdale.  This is, of course, if Doug is fully recovered from his own knee operation on which he had before Christmas.

Doug hopes to be back playing by April and with the deadline for second round of the Mond Cup not until 15 June, it is likely that Doug will be able to compete.

No matches in the first round have yet been played despite the draw taking place last October. With the current freeze it is unlikely any matches will be played soon, but as the deadline is not until the end of April there is no hurry.
