Peter Millard vs Graham Hoy
There was a late start for this match which was played at Peter's home course, Puttenham.
Graham found it a bit of a struggle and was always chasing the game after a promising birdie on the first.
Two down at the turn Graham mounted a bit of a recovery from the 15th onwards when 3 down, chipping in on the short par 3 and winning the 17th to stand on the 18th tee in failing light 1 down.
Not wanting to go down the first in the dark Graham's brain seemed to disengage on the edge of the green where he three putted to half the hole and lose the match.
To be fair Peter
deserved to win - he played the steadier and that combined with
local knowledge of a tight course won the day.
The
long journey for defending champion, Doug Little, to Briantree GC
did not put him in the right frame of mind to put a strong defence
of his title.
Doug
was quick to stress that Ray was pleasure to play with and was a
very good host and wished him well in the final.
