Demolition Doug suffered his own demolition in the hands of Vince Rossiter in the Mond Cup final recently. By his own admission, Doug likes a good 'pear' and this may have been his undoing. For a full explanation and match report, read on...
For the final, Vince chose to forego the attraction of playing at The Addington as he felt he had a better chance at his home course of Birchwood Park. However, the condition of the course (particularly un-raked bunkers) left a lot to be desired. Other factors too caused grumblings from Doug, particularly as he was refused the senior green fee rate (making it more expensive for a visitor here that at The Add!) and, following two societies, the round stretched to five hours!
Doug - not one to moan - just got on with the game! But Vince was firing on all cylinders and was soon 2 up. Pulling himself together, Doug pulled one back at the fifth after a short missed putt from Vince.
